TECHNIQUE NO. 12 SAND SURFACE CREATING TEXTURE WITH A COMMON MATERIAL Just about any inert substance can be added to acrylic paints or mediums to create granular surfaces. Golden makes several Pumice Gels (fine, medium, and coarse) for instance, which are particularly useful because they dry to form absorbent surfaces that soak up washes and glazes.
